1. Ensure that your PDA is properly connected to the computer’s port;
2. From the Umt Manager's Options menu, COM Port sub-menu, ensure that you select the right USB port:
For Palm™ Handheld: If you are using a Palm™ Handheld, select USB Port (Palm devices);
For Sony CLIÉ™ Handheld: If you are using a Sony CLIÉ™ Handheld, select USB Port (Sony and Handspring devices).
If not (USB Port for Palm Devices is selected), your computer will crash when you try to communicate between the Umt program and your Handheld. Ensure that the HotSync® Manager is closed on your PC.
If it is open, this icon
will be in the lower right-hand corner of your PC’s screen. With the mouse, click on this icon and select Exit to close the HotSync® Manager.
For Handspring™ Handheld: If you are using a Handspring™ Handheld, select USB Port (Sony and Handspring devices). If not (USB Port for Palm Devices is selected), your computer will crash when you try to communicate between the Umt program and your Handheld. In addition, to use the Handspring™ Handheld with the USB Port, you must have the Palm Desktop version 4.1 or higher with the USBPort.dll version 4.4.0 or higher.
Ensure that the HotSync® Manager is closed on your PC. If it is open, this icon
will be in the lower right-hand corner of your PC’s screen. With the mouse, click on this icon and select Exit to close the HotSync® Manager. It is also possible that you will have problems if you are using Windows® XP with a Handspring™ Handheld, and you first installed a lower version than Palm Desktop version 4.1 and/or a lower version than USBPort.dll version 4.4.0.
From UMT’s Options menu, select Paths… To use the USB port, the Palm Desktop path (USBPort.dll) must be the same as that installed on your Palm Desktop. This can be C:Palm, C:Program FilesPalm, C:Program FilesSony Handheld or any other path directory. Click the Browse button to select the correct Palm Desktop path, or click the Search button to automatically find the correct Palm Desktop Path and from the Palm Desktop Path Search dialog box, click the Search button. When the search is done, select the corresponding Path and click OK.
First, you must uninstall the UmtPlus™ software as follows:
1. Quit the UMT application on your Handheld;
2. From your Handheld, select the Menu key;
3. From the App menu, select the Delete sub-menu;
4. Select UMT, then select the Delete key. To the message Delete the UMT application and all data?, select Yes;
5. Select the Done key.
Then, reinstall the UmtPlus™ software by following the installation instructions (see Chapter 1 of the UmtPlus™ Manual).
Perform a Soft Reset: Use the reset tip tool, or the tip of an unfolded paper clip (or similar object without a sharp tip) to gently press the reset button inside the hole on the back panel of your Handheld. A soft reset tells your Handheld to stop what it is doing and start over again while retaining all records and entries stored in the Handheld.
